Cattle enter the Niman Ranch feedlot at around 900 lbs and sixteen to twenty months old. Niman mixes their own feeds rather than buying a commercially made ration. This practice requires that Niman invest and maintain grain storage facilities, milling equipment, and mixing trucks.
-
Niman’s finish out ration consists of hay, silage, barley, corn, wheat, soybean meal, distiller’s dried grains and molasses for an average of 140 days. This sweet diet contributes to the marbling and depth of flavor characteristics of Niman Ranch meat.
